A groomsmen is a wedding attendant that is male and appointed by the groom. The men, often regular fixtures at ceremonies, are usually family members or close friends of the husband to be. The grooms men, like the best man, are all responsible for assisting the guests, organizing the bachelor party, and participating in the ceremony. For aesthetics sake, it's common for the groom to appoint the same number of groomsmen as there are bridesmaids. Purchasing gifts for groomsmen is the traditional way to show them thanks for their effort and hard work.

Through it is true that a wedding ceremony should focus just on the bride-to-be and her groom, it's also proper etiquette to praise their efforts. The groom's men are usually presented with their presents of appreciation at the rehearsal lunch or bachelor party. To ensure things are easier, it is generally recommended that all of the men get the same present.

To help you get an idea of how much to spend on the items you should first determine the ceremony's total budget. It's customary for future husbands to allocate a little over one percent of the wedding costs on attendant gifts. Determine how much you have to spend on the presents and then divide the money evenly amongst your groom's men.

A popular route is going with personal presents. Money clips, paperweights, and other objects engraved with the recipients name or initials are always a big hit. You could also include other things such as the date and location of the wedding itself.

Traditional gifts are also ones that are easy to pick and useful. Cuff links, shot glasses and glass mugs are great ideas also. Make sure to choose objects you know your friends will use and appreciate. These items could be engraved with more personal touches as well.

Choosing gifts for your groomsmen that reflect your friendship is another good option. For example, if they are childhood friends and you spent your childhood camping outside together, an engraved compass or hiking shoes would be an appropriate present. A framed and enlarged picture of you all together is a great idea also.

Keep it in mind that if you choose to pay for their travel arrangements or tuxedos it doesn't qualify as groomsmen gifts. Unless these items are things the guys get to all keep, like cuff links or dress shoes, you should opt still to purchase their gifts.
