Two glasses that are very similar are the wheat beer glass and the pilsner glass. They are both narrow at the bottom and wider at the top. Wheat beer glasses have even greater width at the top than a pilsner, and are approximately twice as large. Both glasses are perfectly designed for light frothy head and beautiful aroma.
A traditional container for drinking beer comes from Germany and is called a beer stein. The beer stein is similar in shape to a mug, the difference is that is has a lid attached. Steins are usually made from metals or stoneware. All types of beers can be enjoyed in this type of glassware.
A very common kind of drinking glassware is the pint. As suggested by the name, the pint glass holds one pint of fluid. There are four different pint glass designs; the conical, the nonic, the jug, and the flare top. Porters, bitters, and stouts are the most common types of beer used with pints.
A couple of more uncommon kinds of drinking glassware are snifters and tulip glasses. The basic shape of both glasses is the same, as they are both rather round or bulb shaped at the bottom with a narrower top. The difference is that the tulip glass flares outward at the top. Both types of glasses normally have short stems.
For many years, Austrians, Germans, and Swiss people have consumed beer from a type of glassware called a glass boot. The glass boot was a relatively unknown kind of glassware in the United States until about 2006, when the movie "Beer Fest" came out and featured the glass boot.
There are many different glasses to choose to drink beer from. It is a much more sophisticated way of drinking beer, rather than drinking it from a bottle, can, or plastic glass. For those who are not sure which glass to use, it does not really matter, half the fun is trial and error and enjoying oneself.
